Waiting...

We went back last week to Children's and met a wonderful speech pathologist that specializes in feeding issues. She seemed great and gave us certain things to do each day with Luke so that he becomes "desensitized" to having things by his mouth. She wants us to try to feed him twice a day and then offer him a "food play" time where we give him different types of food (pancakes, bananas, avocados, cheerios, etc.) and we model for him how to pick them up and put them to our mouths. She doesn't necessarily want us putting it to his mouth, instead for him to learn to put it to his own mouth. She also gave us little tools with weird textures on them to put to his mouth so he can practice getting different feelings near/in his mouth. We will see her once a week for 8 weeks. We also have an apt. set up with the OT to evaluate him, she would work on the same things with him.
We also go back to the main doctor on Tuesday. I'm so anxious to go so that they can weigh him and see how much he's gained. In my heart I know that he is getting bigger and gaining weight so I feel excited to see how much and what the doctor's reaction will be. Based on that information, he will let us know what the game plan is. We're hoping it will be just to continue seeing the speech and OT in the hopes that a steady stream of solid foods is in his future.
Luke is continuing to love the Pediasure and is drinking enough to get 100% of the nutrition that he needs, something that was definitely weighing on us. I'm down to nursing only 2-3 times/day, thank goodness. I'm hoping that after this weigh in and his willingness to start eating more, we can drop the nursing all together. He's also sleeping longer spurts so that is a wonderful welcome. We feel like he's just a happier baby as a whole now. It's amazing what a full belly can do for a baby :)
